Back in July, a social media reported that Facebook had become the Internet's ultimate time waster, with users spending an average of 4 hours, 39 minutes on it per month, more than any other site on the Web.
Since then, though, that number has only gone up. According to numbers from Nielsen Online, users spent an average of 5 hours, 46 minutes on Facebook in the August month. To put that in viewpoint, that's triple the amount of time they spent on Google!
In fact, the next nearby site in Nielsen's top 10 is Yahoo, which, despite still having huge traffic in time consuming areas like news, sports, and financial data, could only get users to stick around for 3 hours and 14 minutes on average during the month. YouTube, surprisingly, only engaged 1 hour and 17 minutes of the average user's time.
Of course, one of Google's avowed philosophies is that they "may be the only people in the world who can say our goal is to have people leave our homepage as quickly as possible." However, that ethos was set in stone long before users started spending an inordinate amount of time on social Web sites - sites that now want to compete in search.
For now, Google's answer seems to be expanding its reach in search through other products - primarily its Chrome web browser and upcoming OS. But not having the strong presence in social networking remains the company's Achilles' heel, becoming ever more apparent as Facebook pulls away from the pack in usage stats. This is my very first BLOG. Im so excited for myself, and for you to be exposed to this very special post. A little bit of background about me. The oldest of five. The other four never know what to expect me to do next. My parents are afraid to touch a key on any computer keyboard, and do not use credit cards, and definatly do not park there vehicle in the front of any food establishment if they are in another state for fear of being sent ecoli for desert. The second born, Well call him John. Hes still in prison, but getting out soon. His history is usually surrounded by drugs, violence, home invasion, and violating restraining orders. Hell be out next month, but no worries, hes always got a soft place to land, in a thrashed trailor behind my mom and dads house with a porta-potty sitting close by. Third child is a twisted sister, she has scoliosis. Something I have but cannot seem to collect SSI like the way she does. To be continued......

The fourth, well hes a lot like me. Its hard to make a deal with him because I taught him all his moves, and you cant con a con. Hes in a toxic relationship that surrounds him with chic-flic drama. But he does prosper. Self employed like the rest of us, I wish him well. The fifth is the baby, and still is at age 40. She still competes for first place but will never make it that far since I am numuro ono. We all live within a five mile radious of the main hub. Mom and Dads of course. Were all like mice looking and waiting for the same piece of cheese. Our inheratence. When and how is the question. Should I mention the guy who lives in the back yard? Well call him Gary, Hes self employed alright, but we wont get into that. He keeps my mother up late at night with his loud music. And he drinks like a fish and yells profanities at my mother when she flipps off the bracker. He sounds like 15 years old but hes over 50. He says he only has a year to live, and now my parents are suspicious. Its going on a year and a half. What gives here? Well he does pay the utility bill. Hes the only one with an air conditioner, my parents hang out at his place to keep cool.
