Google Working on Broadband Monitoring Tools

When it comes to your internet broadband connection, Google wants you to know that it has your back. The Internet giant is developing a suite of tools to help broadband users identify traffic discrimination by their Internet service providers (IPS). "We are trying to develop tools, software tools which allow people to detect what's happening with their broadband connections, so they can let (ISPs) know that they're not happy with what they're getting - that they think certain services are being tampered with," Google Senior Policy Director Richard Whitt said Friday morning during a panel discussion at the Innovation '08 conference in Santa Clara, Calif. "If the broadband providers aren't going to tell you exactly what's happening on their networks, we want to give users the power to find out for themselves."

Google services are booming everyday

Google is presenting innovative features for its Android mobile phone software, as well as touch-screen technology, range capabilities and games. Though, officials would not provide a final date for release of the technology. At the Google I/O developer conference engineering director for Android, showed the touch-screen capabilities by using a swiping motion to glow up dots on the demo phone in the form of a "G" to unlock the phone for use. He said users could set up whatever gesture they required to serve as a "password" to release the phone. So far while Android supports touch-screens, they are not essentially a must on all devices.

"The sense is if you have an app on your desktop, there shouldn't be any cause you can't run it on your earpiece. In the meantime, through a keynote address, Horowitz showed Google Street View on the handset and displayed the new range characteristics of the technology where the Street View monitor followed the direction of the user and twisted left or right with the person clutching the phone. Google Street View is a trait of Google Maps and Google Earth that affords 360-degree panoramic street-level views and permit users to view parts of chosen cities and their nearby metropolitan areas at ground level.

He too showed zooming traits for enlarging things on the Android display, a new announcement system for calendar events, missed calls or new e-mail, a desktop-like request launcher and a edition of the Pac-Man game. Even though Google and the OHA (Open Handset Alliance) of 34 companies mounting Android have been disapproved for not opening up expansion of the platform, still it thinks it an open-source attempt in that the OHA will let go the code to the society once it is confirms.

Android is a software heap for mobile plans that contains a working system, middleware and key applications. It consists of a Linux kernel, a set of core libraries that gives most of the functionality obtainable in the center libraries of the Java programming language, a set of C/C++ libraries, a request framework and a set of core applications. Android also characteristics an included browser based on the open-source WebKit browser engine.

"I believe the old replica of stare at this was the browser wars; now we're considering the hot soup of novelty. The Android technology should be prepared to ship in the second half of 2008.

Google has been a leading proponent of Web-based computing — software that is sent over the Internet and naturally runs within a browser. But most browser applications cannot do many of the things that more powerful PC-based software can. Google has been trying to assist close that fissure.

Google advertised the fruits of its efforts on two fronts at the company annual meeting for software developers, which is to be held in San Francisco. Google thought that it has opened to go-between developers the programming interfaces to Google Earth, the company's 3-D visualization software. That will let developers to implant Google Earth on their Web sites, much like they already can do with Google Maps.

Google noted that more than 150,000 sites have bent applications via Google Maps to do things like analytic the locations of crimes or residence rentals in assorted cities, displaying the path of airplanes in flight and assisting users work out the distance they travel on their city walks. Those same sites will be able to improve those applications through Google Earth's better-off visualization software. And other developers will be able to take benefit of Google Earth's 3-D imaging to make new applications to run on their sites.

As the applications will be entrenched in the Web sites and easy to get to through a browser, they will work anyway of whether or not users have fit Google Earth on their PCs. (Users who want the full range of features and data that is obtainable on Google Earth, will still have to download the software on their computers.)

That's a claim that plenty of people — the armies of Windows programmers, for example, or Microsoft itself — are probable to find highly arguable. But the Web is receiving better for programmers and that means normal Internet users can count on getting their hands on more influential and useful Web-based programs rapidly.

Google move forward to make browser applications more influential.

Viacom charges Google

Google reacted to Viacom (VIAB)'s assert that Google (NSDQ: GOOG) and YouTube are to blame for gigantic copyright breach of Viacom's pursuit properties by caution that Viacom pressure the lawful exchange of information online. "By looking to make carriers and hosting providers apt for internet communications, Viacom's grievance menace the way hundreds of millions of people legally exchange information, news, entertainment, and political and artistic appearance. Viacom prosecute Google and YouTube in March 2007; argue that about 160,000 illegal Viacom clips have been posted on YouTube and viewed more than 1.5 billion times. It is seeking $1 billion in compensation. Google has said that it fulfills with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act by reacting to note notices from patent holders. The DMCA inoculates online service providers from legal responsibility for copyright-infringing actions of their users so long as sure supplies are met.

Google squabble that Congress conclusion to give online service providers with constitutional resistance from copyright claims if they meet sure compulsions has proven to be the right one. Looking at the online world now, there is no query that Congress completed the correct policy pick, Google's filing states. Lawful services like YouTube give the world with gratis and official access to odd libraries of information that would not be obtainable without the DMCA -- information created by users who have all right to share it. YouTube accomplishes Congress dream for the DMCA. YouTube also fulfills its end of the DMCA bargain, and certainly goes far away from its legal duty in supporting content owners to defend their works.

All together Google cites amid its defenses the policy of tainted hands, a legal doctrine that contradict a plaintiff's correct to relief based on immoral behavior or actions done in bad faith. Google is thinking to demonstrate that Viacom either can't show ownership of assured content or that Viacom abortive to meet its obligations beneath the DMCA because of stoppage to follow the DMCA notice necessities. Google in 2007 won an important copyright triumph against Perfect 10, and mature magazine that sued Google in 2004 for giving out thumbnails of its images, in part since of the insufficiency of many of the takedown notices it received.

Is friend connect is important and useful?

Since Google didn't provoke you for trial the service live from a webmaster’s outlook however, it looks similar there could be awfully interesting stuff in it. Google is trying to get the web features and accounts give for the web at huge and let other account bringers. Other than they continuously bring the Google account more slam to the feat by placing it near helpful stuff E.g. "Google App Engine" and in turn gives you some "lazy features" for your site. So no need to switch on to e.g. Blogger.com if you just like the comments trait, or expand Facebook request to create things that connects to Facebook.

On the obstacle the more you construct your site pedestal on Google features, the more you're generating a (soft, totally voluntary) confine for yourself since the code after all this does not run on your own server. If Google is down then Friend Connect will get working slow or you need to lot of customization alternatives or Google changes their policy, or they will cancel their service, or they broadcast user data to the government which are based on local policies. Moreover it is out of risk that should make webmasters refuse Google Friend Connect and it is just incredible to keep in mind when you come to make decisions and how faraway to obtain your ship into Google waters.
